FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

NetBotz Delivers New Monitoring Technology to Automatically "X-Ray" Internal Vitals of Network Devices

Advanced Device Crawlers Gives Users Easy Access to Critical Physical Data Buried in Proprietary Extended MIBs

AUSTIN, Texas - May 29, 2002 - NetBotz,TM Inc., the leading global provider of intelligent monitoring solutions for critical assets and spaces, today announced general availability of its patent-pending Advanced Device Crawlers™ software. This innovative software extends the monitoring capabilities of the NetBotz Intelligent Monitoring and Protection™ solution to the physical internals of critical IT equipment. Advanced Device Crawlers is the first monitoring technology to give IT professionals painless and secure cross-platform access to the physical micro environment-the internal vitals-within a network device. This data, which includes information such as CPU temperature, fan speed and power supply status, is found in a vendor's extended SNMP Management Information Base or MIB.

Advanced Device Crawlers supports equipment from multiple vendors, including Dell, Compaq, Cisco and APC.

With downtime costs typically running anywhere from $10,000 to $100,000 or more an hour, controlling environmental and physical factors that can affect business availability and uptime is critical. The NetBotz solution monitors environmental conditions that can jeopardize a company's IT equipment and facilities. These conditions include temperature, humidity, airflow, water and electrical current within a room, closet, rack or cabinet.

An efficient, reliable approach to monitoring, Advanced Device Crawlers confines SNMP traffic to an organization's LAN. The NetBotz appliance hosting the software sends alerts about a device's internals via email, HTTP or FTP over the TCP/IP protocol using standard ports.

"What we've done is given IT professionals X-Ray vision into the health of their IT assets, across a wide variety of network and server equipment vendors," said Mitch Medford, NetBotz vice president, product development. "Until today, getting access to this critical information has been a painful and arduous process for customers. NetBotz has done all the heavy lifting by sifting through these proprietary MIBs to get to the critical physical vitals of the IT equipment businesses run on."

Advanced Device Crawlers

Advanced Device Crawlers can monitor physical characteristics of up to 48 network devices. The innovative NetBotz software automatically extracts desired data objects from proprietary extended MIBs and then formats them into NetBotz Device Definition Files (DDFs), which are used by Advanced Device Crawlers to monitor information.

Each DDF includes "pre-mapped" physical objects. These include, for example, battery run time remaining for a UPS or CPU temperature for a server; fan speed/status; power supply status and more. There is a DDF for each vendor or device class combination supported.

When a threshold set by a user for an object on a target device goes outside of "normal" range or is different than a normal operating state, Advanced Device Crawlers sends alerts to designated email and SNMP traps that integrate the information into a customer's network management system.

Product availability and pricing

Available immediately, Advanced Device Crawlers list price is $695.
