NetBotz Physical Threat Detection Platform Now Provides Early Warning Against Chemical and Nuclear Threats
Offering Integrates Military- and Commercial-Grade Sensors from RAE Systems to Provide Protection Against Lethal and Toxic Substances

AUSTIN, Texas - March 29, 2004 - NetBotz®, Inc., the global leader in IP-based intelligent physical security solutions, and RAE Systems (AMEX: RAE) today announced the release of the first in a series of solutions that detect and provide instant warning about atmospheric security threats, including dangerous air quality levels, the presence of lethal chemical weapons (WMD) and toxic materials. Early warning provides the ability to act quickly, thereby reducing response times and potentially saving lives. Based on the industry-leading NetBotz threat detection platform, which enables easy integration with third party sensors, the new solution leverages best of breed lethal, toxic chemical and radiation sensors from RAE Systems to provide detection of life-threatening gases, chemicals and radiation.

By incorporating the kind of sensing technology that corresponds most closely to the specific dangers security personnel face, the NetBotz solution gives corporate security officers, facility managers, first responders, and others charged with the safety of people, places and assets a solution that increases their range of threat detection capabilities. As new perils emerge, new sensors that detect these threats quickly can be integrated into the NetBotz platform.

About the Sensors
The sensors integrated into the NetBotz platform together warn against the wide range of safety, chemical and toxic threats from breathable air to WMDs to toxic industrial chemicals that can create enormous threats to public and commercial safety. RAE Systems' MultiRAE Sensor are field-proven technologies. The MultiRAE detects a wide range of toxic industrial chemicals (Carbon Monoxide, Sulfur Dioxide, Nitric Oxide, Nitrogen Dioxide, Hydrogen Cyanide, Ammonia, Phosphine, Chlorine, Carbon Dioxide, Chlorine Dioxide and more), Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), as well as radioactive materials. In addition the MultiRAE can monitor for:

  • High/low oxygen levels, which are critical in pointing to the presence of dangerous ambient materials that pose a threats to humans
  • The presence of volatile organic compounds, most of which are toxic to humans
  • Lower explosive limit detection, which monitors the level of combustibility in the environment-a warning signal of an impending explosion
What Differentiates the NetBotz Solution
Other warning systems are not only expensive, they are closed, stationary systems, capable of monitoring only a circumscribed area around the deployment. The NetBotz solution, on the other hand, has an open architecture, which enables easy and quick integration of third party sensors. This provides a common first alert delivery platform for a wide range of physical threats. In addition, the platform is lightweight and highly portable. This means that it can be deployed in limitless number of "hot spots" or potentially unsafe areas, quickly-whenever or wherever the need arises. And because the NetBotz solution can be moved easily, as potential security target areas shift with changing circumstances, the NetBotz solution can be redeployed quickly to the newly vulnerable area.

About the Solution
Geared to protecting locations such as subway tunnels, high rise buildings, commercial sites and other areas where large groups of people gather and valuable as well as vulnerable infrastructure and assets reside, the newly announced NetBotz solution is an IP-based solution that includes monitoring appliances that actively scan an area and collect data from sensors about physical threats. If the appliance senses trouble, it immediately sends an alert over an IP network, telephone line or cell network to appropriate personnel. A subway scenario, for example, could leverage the placement of MultiRAE sensors potentially miles away from the NetBotz monitoring appliance inside a subway tunnel. If a dangerous chemical agent were then released there, the sensor would detect it and instantly send that information to the monitoring appliance, which would then alert appropriate officials to facilitate quick first responder actions.

"When we launched our new physical security platform in April, our goal was to provide customers with a physical security solution that met their individual and growing need for protection against physical threats," said Mitch Medford, Chief Technology Officer, NetBotz. "Partnering with sensor technology companies such as RAE Systems means we can offer solutions that meet the real needs of an increasingly threatened world. Today's announcement aptly delivers on that goal and marries technology innovation with superb physical threat protection backed by excellent distribution."

"Integrating sensor technology with data management gives security managers a new monitoring tool, said Bob Durstenfeld, RAE Systems' director of corporate marketing. "NetBotz now brings continuous facility management to a new level of data integration and pervasive sensing."
